Are you a Daddy’s girl? I most certainly am! There is something very special that exists when a Daddy and daughter have a good, loving relationship. I’m thankful to say that not only am I a Daddy’s girl, but my daughter is too. This makes me incredibly happy because I see the immense value in having a good earthly father to be an example of what our Heavenly Father is like. Last Father’s Day I made my husband a coffee mug that had this quote on it “DADDY- a son’s first hero, a daughter’s first love.” This rings so true and for a little girl to feel safe and loved by her father sets the pace for the rest of her life in what to look for in a man, and what she can only find in God.
I understand that not every woman has had such a wonderful experience with their earthly father… my heart truly does break for you and you’re not alone. When reading this, my prayer is that you would not feel bad about your lack of an example through your Dad, but see it as a flashing neon arrow pointing straight to Heaven to show you that you have a PERFECT Daddy who loves you more than you could ever imagine. There’s always a silver lining and for those who struggle(d) in their relationship with their father, know that God specializes in making beauty from ashes and your story can be used to touch the lives of everyone around you if you’ll let it.
All that being said, let’s take a moment to reflect on God’s Word that states we are ALL Daddy’s girls, regardless of our earthly circumstances.
First of all, when we fully realize who we are without the cross, when we turn our lives over to the only One who can handle it, and when our hearts are screaming out for the love and salvation of Jesus Christ, we are pulled closely to the Father’s heart and (quite literally) adopted as His very own child. Don’t believe me?
See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. (1 John 3:1)
Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God. (Galatians 4:7)
For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” (Romans 8:15)
(That last one is one of my favorites)
There are countless Scriptures labeling us as God’s children- how humbling and precious is that?! Regardless of whether you had a great relationship with your Dad, if it was strained to say the least, or if you never even knew him, you have a REAL, LOVING Father who chose you and loves you with an everlasting/unconditional love. You can find your true identity in His arms and you can get close enough to Him to hear His heartbeat. Thank You Abba, that we can climb up in Your lap and rest in the knowledge that, to You, we will always be a Daddy’s Girl.
