Football season has come once more with all its tailgating, hoodies and all of its fun. Can I just say that my poor dad has tried to explain the game to me, but I never was really interested in sports. I would rather be curled up in a quiet place with a good book, or out exploring new places than cheering on a team. Poor dad, he tried… but the love of it never stuck. The closest he got is my twin sister liked to play baseball and football in the yard with him. Of course she was 7 so it was a slightly one sided game. Me? Well lets just say balls and I don’t have the best relationship- I mean they like me, but the feeling isn’t mutual as they go sailing over my head while I duck. Yeah, I know. Your supposed to catch the ball- but that is a little hard when you have your eyes closed.
Goal. In sports this is where the ball must go to score a point. The dictionary defines it as the object of a persons ambition. An aim or desired result. Its an objective, an aim, an end, a target, a plan. What are your goals? To visit a certain place? Get a certain degree? Live a certain way?
Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 1 Corinthians 9:25
What are you training for? Where is your heart pulling you? What do you strive for? For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21 These are questions we all should ask ourselves. For me some of the answers include visiting all 50 states. Owning a Ranch. Growing my families businesses and going on missions trips. But am I glorifying Him as I work toward my goals? Are my goals godly goals? Or are they things that will shrivel up and pass away?
For I know the plans I have for you … plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
Am I making sure that what I want is what He wants for me? Am I listening to Him? Or am I “smelling the poppies” (Hey if you have seen the movie you know they put you to sleep) along the road while He is saying “don’t do that.” “Don’t- stop. Don’t do that!”? Am I listening to His ‘goal’ for my life. Because when it boils down to it- I would rather have His objective, His aim, for my life. Because I want to win the race, score that point.
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 1 Corinthians 9:24
Sure there is no harm in owning a ranch, traveling or growing your business. But are you pointing others to Him? Are you living a life that will point your kids and grandkids to Him? Run the race to win my friend. Be a person of honor. Be a person of integrity. Be a person who stands for what is right. Be a person who defends the ones that can’t defend them selves. Be a person that when you tell people about your journey they can see Jesus all over it. Remember, there is always someone watching. Does your life point others to Christ, without you opening your mouth? Live your life, to make that ‘goal’.
